Press Release – All Texans should be able to access the green economy

“All Texans should be able to access the green economy”

Introducing Clean Energy Fund of Texas, a financing provider for Texans of all backgrounds to pay for solar power and energy efficiency upgrades

HOUSTON — An experienced, innovative group of green economy leaders today launched the Clean Energy Fund of Texas, a financial services partner that will save money and energy for thousands of low and moderate income Texans.

As the first “green bank” up and running in Texas, Clean Energy Fund of Texas speeds up investments in energy efficiency, weatherization and renewable power – especially for Texas home and business owners that have been left out of the green economy.

“We’re thrilled to help more Texans save money and energy, cutting red tape and speeding up access to the green economy,” said Stephen K. Brown II, founder and Board Chair of the Clean Energy Fund of Texas and a pioneering climate strategist. “All Texans should be able to access affordable, clean energy to save money, save energy and develop the green economy.”

Texas is already a national leader in wind and solar energy, but not every Texan can access clean energy solutions. Limiting access to money-saving, energy-saving upgrades is inequitable and won’t get us far enough fast enough to fix the climate crisis.

About 41% of Texas households (3.8 million households) qualify as low-income. The energy burden – the percentage of these households’ total income spent on energy – is between 6 and 15.5%, beyond the 6.0% recommended by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. The kinds of energy efficiency upgrades that the Clean Energy Fund of Texas finances could save these Texans up to 30% off their monthly utility bills.

Clean Energy Fund of Texas offers several innovative financing products, including:

“This kind of financing is exactly what our state needs to grow the clean energy economy while saving Texans money and taking pressure off the electric grid,” said Billy Briscoe, a Houston attorney and Clean Energy Fund of Texas Board Member. “Clean Energy Fund of Texas offers high-quality, trusted financial support for homeowners, businesses and others who want to catalyze clean energy in the Lone Star State.”
