Clean Energy Fund of Texas & SELF Hit $2M in Clean Energy Loans for Texas Families
Over the past 2.5 years, Clean Energy Fund of Texas has been steadily building something big, working side-by-side with our friends at Solar and Energy Loan Fund (SELF); helping Texas families lower their energy bills, make critical home repairs, and build resilience in the face of rising costs and extreme weather. We are excited to celebrate a major milestone in that journey.
$2,000,000 in closed clean energy and energy efficiency loans for Texas households.
A Partnership Built for Energy Equity
Clean Energy Fund of Texas is proud to collaborate with SELF, a mission-driven lender with a long track record of financing sustainable home upgrades. Together, we’ve combined:
- SELF’s experience in designing and servicing affordable clean energy loans, and
- Clean Energy Fund of Texas’ focus on reducing the energy burden in low-income and disadvantaged communities across Texas.

Who We Serve: Centering LIDAC and Rural Communities
Borrowers like Ms. Goines is why we do what we do! Ms. Goines applied to finance a new HVAC system through Clean Energy Fund of Texas. She had been without working heating and cooling for more than a year and just wanted her home to feel comfortable and healthy again.
As we walked through the qualification process, we learned Ms. Goines had been through a difficult season. After losing her husband during COVID and facing ongoing medical challenges, she had fallen behind on her mortgage. In fact, she had worked hard to bring it current just three days before applying. After our initial review, it looked like we might not be able to help.
Our team stayed with her and talked through what documentation we still needed. During that conversation, we discovered she had unintentionally left out a significant portion of her income in the application. With the updated information and with the Underwriting Team understanding that she is a senior homeowner with an urgent need for reliable heating and cooling we were able to approve her loan. Within a week, her new HVAC system was installed.
Ms. Goines was ecstatic and deeply grateful that someone took the time to listen, understand her situation, and help her move forward. Stories like hers are exactly why our collaboration with SELF matters: it helps us move capital into communities in a way that’s not just fast, but truly people-centered.
From the beginning, this work has been about energy equity making sure the benefits of clean energy and efficiency aren’t reserved for a select few.

Growing the Trusted Texas Contractor Network (TTCN)
To deploy more loans, we have to do more than raise capital, we have to make sure trusted and informed contractors can connect that capital with real projects in real homes. When contractors have a trusted financing partner, they can spend less time worrying about whether a project will pencil out and more time doing the work that changes homes and lives.

Contractor Snapshot: A Partner on the Front Lines
Behind every loan is a contractor standing in a hot attic, on a rooftop, or in a driveway explaining options, building trust, and getting the work done.
Good Faith Energy, based in Addison and serving the Dallas–Fort Worth region and North Texas, has been working with families to deliver clean energy solutions that lower energy costs and increase home resilience. Many of their customers needed solar upgrades but couldn’t qualify for traditional financing or were offered products with high interest rates and confusing terms.
Through our partnership with SELF and participation in the Trusted Texas Contractor Network (TTCN), Good Faith Energy can now offer transparent, affordable clean energy financing right at the kitchen table. They’ve helped close 4 loans totaling more than $178,771, providing their customers with safe, efficient systems and lower monthly bills, all while growing their own business.
For contractors like this, access to a reliable lending partner means fewer stalled projects, more approvals, and the ability to serve customers who have historically been left out of the clean energy transition.
We are actively growing TTCN to:
- Expand the pipeline of projects in LIDAC and rural communities
- Equip contractors with information about our loan products so they can confidently present financing options to their customers
- Support local businesses, especially small and minority-owned contractors working on solar, HVAC, roofing, and weatherization
- Streamline the process from homeowner interest to loan approval to project completion
Powered by Local Partners
This milestone is also a testament to the local ecosystem that makes this possible:
- Community partners and nonprofits helping identify households in need
- Contractors across Texas building relationships, installing systems, and standing behind their work
- Funders and supporters who believe that clean energy and efficiency should be accessible to everyone, not just a privileged few
Together, we’re creating a model where families, contractors, and communities all win: lower bills, better homes, stronger local economies. All of this work supports our core mission: reducing the energy burden for low-income and disadvantaged communities while building resilience and comfort at home.
What $2M in Clean Energy Loans Looks Like on the Ground

What’s Next After $2M?
Hitting $2 million in closed loans is a milestone, not a finish line.
Looking ahead, Clean Energy Fund of Texas aims to:
- Expand our reach to more counties and communities across Texas
- Grow our lending portfolio to $10 million in 2026
- Close more loans for LIDAC and rural households, deepening our impact where it’s needed most
- Strengthen and scale TTCN, so even more contractors can bring affordable financing to the customers they serve
- Add new products and initiatives, including water and resilience-focused projects, to further reduce household costs and improve quality of life
Two million dollars in closed loans is a number we’re proud of but the real win is the households, contractors, and communities that are now more comfortable, more resilient, and a little less stressed when the utility bill arrives. Here’s to the next $2 million and to a cleaner, fairer energy future for Texas. We’re just getting started.
