Clean Energy Fund of Texas and SELF Reach $1 Million Milestone in Loans to Texas Families to Reduce Energy Burden and Boost Efficiency
Clean Energy Fund of Texas and Solar and Energy Loan Fund (SELF) are thrilled to announce a major milestone. Together, we have partnered in providing over $1 million dollars in low-interest loans to help low and moderate income Texas families for energy efficient upgrades to their homes. The program, in its first year of lending, highlights our shared commitment to empowering Texans with access to renewable energy solutions and creating a more sustainable energy future.
Thanks to this partnership, more Texas households have been able to upgrade their homes with energy-efficient improvements, including solar panels, batteries, HVAC systems, and roof repairs. These upgrades have enabled families to lower their energy bills by as much as 30%, making a tangible financial difference in their lives while reducing their carbon footprints.
“We are incredibly proud to have reached this milestone in partnership with Clean Energy Fund of Texas. SELF and Clean Energy Fund of Texas are committed to making energy-efficient and sustainable home improvements affordable and accessible, ensuring all Texans benefit from a cleaner and more equitable energy future,” said Duanne Andrade, Chief Executive Officer of SELF.
For many low and moderate income Texas families, traditional financing options for clean energy improvements are out of reach due to high costs and restrictive lending criteria. Through our collaboration, Clean Energy Fund of Texas and SELF offer low-interest financing without costly dealer fees. This unique approach has opened the doors to the green economy for families who otherwise would not have had access.
“Reaching this $1 million dollar milestone is a tribute to the power of collaboration and the resilience of Texas families,” said Billy Briscoe, CEO of Clean Energy Fund of Texas. “By providing affordable financing options, we’re not only helping families save money on energy costs but also empowering them to be part of Texas’ clean energy future. This is just the beginning—we’re committed to making the green economy accessible to all Texans and creating a more sustainable energy landscape.”
Clean Energy Fund of Texas is grateful to SELF as its funding and program partner. We thank our philanthropic supporters for helping get us to this milestone, including The Hive Fund for Climate and Gender Justice, Invest in our Future, the Jacob & Terese Hershey Foundation, and Lyda Hill Philanthropies, among others.
The success of our program is made possible by our extensive network of contractors who have completed these transformative projects. From solar panel installations to critical home repairs, these efforts are not only helping families but also creating jobs and strengthening the Texas economy. Together, we are helping to foster a resilient workforce ready to meet the growing demand for clean energy solutions. Texas has the most clean energy jobs in the country.
“Achieving this $1 million dollar milestone reflects the dedication and teamwork of everyone involved—from our lending partners to the families we serve,” said “Theo” Gervais Woodard, Business Development Manager at Clean Energy Fund of Texas and the key figure in securing these deals. “Every loan represents a family empowered to take control of their energy future while contributing to a cleaner, more sustainable Texas. We’re proud to help open doors to the green economy for those who need it most, and we look forward to helping even more Texans in the years to come.”
Take Steven in Baytown, who researched solar energy and different purchase options for over two years but couldn’t afford to get into the market. The Clean Energy Fund of Texas program allowed him to borrow money to add solar panels and to use the energy savings to help pay back his loan. By making energy efficiency upgrades accessible to families across Texas, our program is helping to reduce the financial strain of high energy costs while also contributing to the state’s broader climate goals.
Renewable energy saves money, reduces environmental impact, and provides reliable power. Texans are increasingly turning to these solutions, especially as the state continues to experience extreme weather events and rising energy costs. Clean Energy Fund of Texas and SELF are committed to ensuring that more low and moderate income Texas families can benefit from these advancements.
As we celebrate this achievement, we invite funders, partners, public officials, and members of the financial services sector to join us in expanding this critical work. By working together, we can bring clean energy solutions to even more families across Texas and beyond.
